Waiotira Primary School Description

The school consists of two buildings, one which is the original school building that includes a newly refurbished office/receptions area, principal’s office, Learning Support/Teacher Aide space, library, resource room, staffroom, storerooms and toilet facilities. There is also a newly purpose built classroom that has two separate classroom spaces that can be opened by glass doors in the centre. The junior classroom has a fully covered and waterproof deck space that is used for play during classroom time. The grounds also host a storage shed , two baby barns that contain outdoor play equipment (loose parts), a pool with 2 separate changing rooms. A barked fitness area provides ample activities for physical play.

The school buildings are situated on an elevated part of the grounds, with a playing field below. A ‘horse paddock’ is behind the schoolhouse which is adjacent to the school. The school enjoys a series of vegetable, herb and butterfly gardens as well a chicken coop.

Pupils at the school come from a range of socio-economic backgrounds and travel to school by bus, car and on foot. We control a primary bus run morning and afternoon, with some children utilising a Tauraroa bus on a shared route to travel to school.

Our small class sizes mean our pupils receive excellent levels of individual support. Our children learn in a friendly, supportive environment. The school is student focused and every student is encouraged to reach their full potential.

Many of the community’s social activities centre around the school with Pet Day, Open Days, PTA meetings, fundraising activities, sporting or cultural occasions being well supported by the community.

We strive for Waiotira to be an exciting and fun place for our children to learn, endeavouring to keep up to date with the changes in technology – providing our children with access to up to date technology and opportunities to explore their use, in their everyday world.

Special features of the school are the position of the school to the centre of Waiotira itself, enabling a continuing link between the school and the community. The fact that the school is the largest employing agency and provides the community with information regarding local activities is in itself a special feature.

The staff works closely together with the Board, Parents/Whanau and the Community to ensure that we are working towards achieving the high expectations we set and desire for our children
